How does a Watermelon Tourmaline form?
It grows as a crystal inside rock. Tiny traces of metals give it its colour: manganese is usually behind the pink, iron behind the green. When both sit in the same crystal, it becomes a Watermelon Tourmaline.
Why is it cut into slices?
Because its pink is on the inside. From the outside, the crystal only shows its green.
Then someone takes it in their hands and cuts it gently across. And there it is: a pink heart, held by a green edge. You don't open it to divide it. You open it to show what it has been carrying all along.
How does it wear?
